PURPLE HEART
Sgt. James P. Carey, of the Carey Funeral Home, has been awarded the purple heart for wounds received in action in German, according to word received by his brother, Dr. M. J. Carey, 2212 Sixth avenue. With the medical corps since his induction in December 1942, he has served in battalion aid stations in England, France, Belgium and Germany. Sgt. Carey went overseas in June, 1943.

James Peter Carey was born Feb. 9, 1907 to James P. (Sr.) and Mary Ryan Carey. He died July 1, 2001 and is buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Council Bluffs, IA.
