Memorial Rites for Gale Butler Set for Sunday
Memorial services for Sgt. Gale R. Butler, who was killed in Italy March 1, in line of duty, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Henry Otten officiating.
Sgt. Butler and a group of men were loading bombs at the camp’s bomb dump when one bomb exploded, causing several other bombs to explode. Most of the men working nearby were killed. The Sioux Cityan was an armorer with the 464th bombardment group in the 15th army air force in Italy.
His wife and children reside at 2633 S. Cleveland street, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Butler, live in Oakland, Cal.
Sgt. Butler was born June 23, 1907, in LeMars, and attended school there. He was employed for several years, beginning in 1932, by the Farmers Lumber and Supply company. When the war broke out, he moved to California and in the fall of 1942 entered the service, receiving most of his training at Pocatello and Boise, Idaho. He went overseas in March, 1944.
Survivors, besides the widow and parents, are two children, Gary, 2 ½ and Jon, 8 months; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Davis of Sacramento, Cal., and Mrs. E. C. Maxeiner of Cleveland; and a brother, Roger, of Oakland.

Gale Randall Butler was born June 23, 1907 to George A. and Sadie Randall Butler. He died Mar. 1, 1945 and is buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, MO.
