Ashton, Ia., Sergeant Is Honored in Italy
Fifteenth A. A. F. in Italy.—T. Sgt. Christian J. Breuer, 26, technician with a B-17 Flying Fortress squadron operating from a base in Italy, has been awarded the bronze star for “meritorious achievement in direct support of combat operations.” Presentation of the medal was made by Brig. Gen. C. W. Lawrence, commanding general of a B-17 Flying Fortress wing, based in Italy.
Sgt. Breuer was cited for his “tremendous initiative, inspiring leadership, technical proficiency, and noteworthy devotion to duty.” The citation further pointed out that by these qualities Sgt. Breuer “contributed in a large measure to the combat efficiency of his outfit.”
Sgt. Breuer is the son of J. H. Breuer, Ashton, Ia. His wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Breuer, and child also reside at Ashton. A brother and sister are also members of the armed forces; Virginia Breuer, pharmacist’s mate third class in the WAVES, and Pfc. Jerome Breuer, overseas with a medical battalion.
