FLOYD BREHM IS DEAD IN ACTION
Former Merrill Boy, Army Sergeant, Killed in France
Will H. Brehm and Ralph Brehm, of Merrill, have received word that their brother, Sgt. Floyd S. Brehm, was killed in action July 27, in France, while serving in an infantry unit. No details have been received.
Floyd Brehm, who was 37 years old, enlisted March 16, 1942, at Pasadena, Calif., and was sent overseas this year. Pasadena was the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Brehm before their deaths.
“I remember the day he enlisted very well,” his brother Will recalled. “He telephoned me from Pasadena the day before the 16th, which is my birthday. And he said, If I had waited till tomorrow, I could have said, Happy Birthday and you could have called me Private Brehm. I’m going in tomorrow.”
Floyd S. Brehm was born in Melbourne vicinity, and received his early schooling there. While he was still a small boy, his parents moved to Pasadena. He has, however, been a frequent visitor in Plymouth County. A baritone vocalist, he studied music in New York, and has often appeared as baritone soloist with the LeMars Municipal Band and Monahan Post Band at Sioux City, and at the Methodist and Hildreth churches in LeMars.
Floyd Brehm was unmarried. After the death of his parents, he lived with his sisters, Mrs. Ed Parsons and Mrs. Norman Minkler at Pasadena.
