Brandenburg Is Killed in Action
Pvt. Calvin Brandenburg, 21, was killed Dec. 14 while serving with a medical corps unit in Germany, his mother, Mrs. Edward Brandenburg, 404 East Third street, had been advised Tuesday by the war department.
In service since March, 1943, he received his army training in North Carolina and had been overseas since Nov. 1, 1944.
Calvin Brandenburg was born Oct. 26, 1923, at Brandon, Ia., son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brandenburg. His father is deceased.
He attended Brandon and Tripoli, Ia., schools and was graduated from Tripoli high school. He attended Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls two years before entering service. He was a member of Tripoli Lutheran church.
Survivors include his mother, now employed at the Rath Packing Co.; an older brother, Ernest, in navy convoy duty in the Atlantic; and one sister, Enid, a teacher in the Boone, Ia., high school.

Correction
The rank of Calvin Brandenburg, son of Mrs. Ed Brandenburg, 404 East Third street, who was killed in action Dec. 14 in Germany, was erroneously given as private in Tuesday’s Courier. He held he rank of technician fifth grade.

Three Bodies of War Dead Due Today
The bodies of three Waterloo boys will be among the 15 northeast Iowa veterans aboard the United States army transport Robert Burns which is scheduled to dock at New York City today, it was learned here yesterday.

The majority of these dead are being returned from Henri Chapelle military cemetery at Eupen, Belgium. Some are from the cemetery at St. Laurent-sur-Mer, 10 miles west of Bayeux, France. Included in the group are many men who fell on the furious D-Day assault on Omaha beach.
The dead will be buried in private or national cemeteries according to the wishes of next-of-kin.

Brandenburg’s Body to Reach Greene Saturday
Mrs. Ed Brandenburg, 1707 Hawthorne avenue, has received word that the body of her son, Technician Fifth Grade Calvin C. Brandenburg, will arrive at Greene, Ia., Saturday for services and burial.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p. m. at the Lutheran church in Greene and burial will be in the Greene cemetery.
Technician Brandenburg was killed Dec. 14, 1944, in Germany and has been awarded the Silver Star, the combat medal and the Bronze Star, posthumously.

Brandenburg Rites Conducted At Greene
Greene, Ia. – Body of Calvin Brandenburg, Greene’s first war dead was brought to Greene for permanent burial and services were Monday with Rev. E. A. Hanff of Tripoli officiating.
Military escort from Tripoli accompanied the body and military services were also conducted. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in Greene
