Hobart E. Brake, 22, son of Hobert E. Brake, 2215 Heights Avenue, has been appointed a naval aviation cadet and has been transferred from the Ottumwa, Iowa, naval air station to the naval air training center at Pensacola, Florida for flight training.

IN UNIFORM

Lt. (j.g.) H. E. Brake, jr., U. S. N. R., 2215 Heights avenue, has returned from a tour of combat duty in the Pacific, where he flew a fighter plane based on one of the navy’s big aircraft carriers.  Attached to air group 20, Lt. Brake piloted a Grumann Hellcat.  He completed 22 combat missions and inflicted substantial damage on enemy shipping and shore installations in Formosa, the Philippines, and French Indo-China.  He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Brake and was educated at Central high school, Grinnell college, and the University of Nebraska.  He received his commission in August, 1943.  Lt. Brake recently was home for a few days visit with his parents, after which he returned to the west coast and now is stationed at Alameda, Cal.
