FAMILY PICNIC FOR LEO BLUML WHO IS LEAVING FOR ARMY
A family picnic at Graham Park Sunday noon honored Leo Bluml of Halbur, who is leaving for the Army July 8. Mr. Bluml, who has been employed at the bomber plant in Omaha, is at his home in Halbur until his departure.
Relatives present included: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bluml and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bluml, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Bluml and family, and Leo and Otto Bluml, Halbur; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bluml and family, Lidderdale; Mr. and Mrs. Al Kerkhoff and family and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Friedman and family, Templeton; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Odendahl and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bluml and family, Carroll; Mr. and Mrs. George Otto and family, Mt. Carmel; and Lois Winker, Manning.

Sgt Leo A. Bluml Of Halbur in Famed Bombardment Division
An Eighth Air Force Bomber Station, England—Sgt. Leo A. Bluml, 25-year-old Eighth Air Force vehicle dispatcher, is a member of the famed Third Bombardment Division, cited by the President for its now historic England-Africa shuttle bombing of the Messerschmitt aircraft factories at Regensburg, Germany—first of its kind in the army air forces. Sgt. Bluml holds the good conduct medal for “excellence of character and superior performance of duty.”
Formerly a reside of Halbur, Iowa, Sgt. Bluml was employed by the Bell Aircraft Company at Buffalo, N.Y. His brother, Cpl. Otto Bluml, is serving in the Army in India.

Bluml Brothers, Dischargees, To Meet in Carroll
When Leo Bluml arrives in Carroll today as a dischargee from the army air forces, he will see his brother, Otto Bluml, for the first time in three and one-half years. Otto came here last night, following his discharge from the Army at Camp McCoy, Wis.
It will be three years next Tuesday, Nov. 13, since Cpl. Otto Bluml entered the service. He has been in the China-Burma-India theater for 30 months.
Sgt. Leo Bluml, who has been in the army air forces three and one-half years, was in England and France for 20 months. He was discharged at Jefferson Barracks, Mo.
Both will be at the home of their brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Bluml, for the present.

Leo Bluml was born Sept. 1, 1918 to Francis Xavier “Frank” and Theresia Schillinger Bluml. He died Aug. 11, 1985 and is buried in Saint Rose of Lima Cemetery, Denison, IA.
