Bellinghausen Missing Since D-Day, June 6
Templeton (THNS) -- William F. Bellinghausen, son of Mrs. Mathilda Bellinghausen of Templeton, has been missing in action over France since invasion day, June 6, according to a telegram received yesterday morning by his mother from the adjutant general.
The youth, a a radio-gunner in the army air forces, was 21 years old February 9, 1944. He had been in the service since February 10, 1943 and has been overseas about four months.

County Soldier Missing a Year Declared Dead
Cpl. William Bellinghausen, Templeton, Reported Lost on D-Day
Templeton (THNS) -- Mrs. Peter Bellinghausen received a letter from the war department yesterday afternoon, stating that, since her son, Cpl. William Bellinghausen of the army air forces has been missing more than one year, he is officially declared dead. Cpl. Bellinghausen, who would have been 22 years old last February, had previously been reported missing in action since D-Day, June 6, 1944.
He was a radio gunner on a C-47 transport plane, and had been overseas since February, 1944, having gone to England from the states. Cpl. Bellinghausen was working at the North American Airplane factory in Inglewild, Calif., at the time he was inducted in to the service in February 1943.
He had received training at five or six camps in the States, but had been at Fort Bragg, Ind., the longest period of time.
Cpl. Bellinghausen was born in Templeton, Feb 9, 1923, and was graduated from Sacred Heart high school.
Besides his mother, he leaves five brother and three sisters. Three brothers are in the navy: Bernard, ARM, 1/c, stationed at Norfolk, Va.; Paul AMM 2/c, who has been in England; and Vincent AM 3/c, who is in the Pacific area. His other brothers are Joe and Earl, at home, and his sisters are: Mrs. Elmer Holstein (Eleanor), Carroll; Mrs Pete Flies (Juletta), Coon Rapids, and Marie, at home.
His father, Peter Bellinghausen died Nov.12, 1942. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Cpl. Bellinghausen was a member of Sacred Heart church here.
Memorial services are to be held later, but the date has not been set, anticipating the arrival home of a brother, Paul, AMM, 2/c.

Memorial Service Held For Cpl. Bellinghausen At Templeton Monday
Templeton (THNS) -- Memorial service were held at Sacred Heart church at 8:30 a.m. Monday for Cpl. Wm. F. Bellinghausen who was killed in an airplane crash over Europe June 6, 1944. Mass was read by the Rev. Leo Lenz. The colors were carried by Herman Grau of Manning. Color guard were Otto Popp and Emil Kulh, both members of the Manning American Legion Post. Pallbearers were Sgt. Walter Galloway, Sgt. Vincent Langelm Sgt. Joseph Koenig, and Sgt. Frank Hacker of Halbur. Honorary pall bearers were Norman Schreck, Owen Ohlinger, John Schoeppner, Robert Ries, Harold Heithoff and Joe Schoeuble. The flag was folded by Lt. Paul Kohorst and Elbert Schoeppner and presented to the soldier's mother Mrs. Peter Bellinghausen, by Schroeppner.
Billy Roberts of Manning was the bugler.
Relatives and friends from Carroll, Manning, Halbur, Roselle and Breda attended the services.

Cpl. Bellinghausen's Body Being Returned To Carroll for Burial
The body of Corporal William F. Bellinghausen, killed in action on D-day, is being returned to Carroll. His mother, Mrs. Tillie Bellinghausen, has not been notified as to the exact date.
Corporal Bellinghausen was a radio man on a C-47 troop carrier when his plane was shot down over the Channel. His body was recovered three days later.

Cpl. William Frank Bellinghausen died June 6, 1944 and is buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Templeton, IA.
