SAC CITY MEDIC SAVES THREE in OKINAWA FIGHT
OUTSIDE NAHA, Okinawa, (AP) – Hospital assistant First Class Jack R. Barlow, 20, of Sac City, has been credited with probably saving the lives of three marines who were wounded by Jap machine gun fire.
Fifteen casualties were suffered before the company could fight its way out of the machine gun trap. Barlow remained with the wounded, calling for a smoke screen, protective fire and stretcher bearers.
Two died after being carried out under cover of the screen but doctors said Barlow probably was responsible for saving three.
