Funerals

The remains of Sgt. John J. “Jack” Ball, who was killed in North Africa, was returned and interred in Valhalia cemetery at Los Angeles, Calif., on March 2. Only members of the immediate family were present.

Ball was graduated from Abraham Lincoln high school in June, 1937. He enlisted in Company L, of the local National Guard, previous to the war. On arrival of his company in Scotland, he applied for enlistment in the U. S. Rangers and was made a sergeant in Company C, 1st Ranger battalion. He was killed March 25, 1943. His parents, now living in Los Angeles, formerly resided at 1200 East Washington avenue.

John Jesse “Jack” Ball was born June 20, 1919 to John Edward and Eleanora Theresa Pischel Ball. He died Mar. 25, 1943 and is buried in Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood, CA.

Sgt. Ball served in World War II with the U.S. Army 1st Ranger Battalion, Darby Ranger Co. C and was KIA in El Guettar.
