ROBERT W. BAKER FORMER RESIDENT, KILLED IN AFRICA
Robert W. Baker, 21, son of Mrs. Eugene McAdams, a former resident of Sioux City who now lives in Chicago, was killed January 14, 1945, in an airplane crash in north Africa while he was en route home. A gunner on a Navy Liberator bomber stationed in England, he had completed his tour of duty as an aviation ordnance man, third class.
He was born December 31, 1923, and had lived here about five years before the family moved to Chicago. He was a student at De Pauw university in Greencastle, Ind., where he was a member of Delta Epsilon fraternity. He entered the Navy two years ago.
