Two More Waterloo Men Killed
Two Waterloo men in service were officially reported killed in action in the European theater of war, according to war department telegrams received by their relatives.
They are:
Staff Sgt. Dale L. Gross, 20, of 149 Madison street.
Pfc. Laurence (sic) C. Baish, Jr.¸ 22, of 1315 Lafayette street.

Private Baish, 22, was killed in action May 16 in Germany, according to a war department telegram received by his father, who resides at 1315 Lafayette street. He had been serving overseas 40 months with an army engineers unit of Patton’s Third army.
A pre-Pearl Harbor enlistee in October, 1941, he received his basic training at Camp Claiborne, La., and left for overseas the following February.
Born June 22, 1922, the son of Lawrence C. and Cleo Graham Baish, in Waterloo, Ia., he attended Waterloo schools, graduating from East high school in 1941. He was a member of Grace Methodist church. He is survived by his father, his mother, Mrs. Ragnan Nelson, Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. Everett Gustafson, of West Virginia.

Lawrence C. Baish Body Coming Back
The body of Pfc. Lawrence C. Baish, 23, formerly of Waterloo, is being brought from Germany for burial in Rock Island National cemetery, Rock Island, Ill., it was learned Tuesday.
Son of Larence C. Baish, 318 East 11th street, and Cleo Nelson, Chicago, he was born in Waterloo June 22, 1922. He served with the Third army under General Patton, 40 months overseas. He was killed May 15, 1945, in Ansbach, Germany.
Private Baish was a pre-Pearl Harbor enlistee in October, 1941, and received his basic training at Camp Claiborne, La., leaving for overseas service the following February. He graduated from East high school in 1941. He was a member of Grace Methodist church.
Surviving are his father, his mother, and one sister, Mrs. Everett Gutafson, West Virginia.
