3 Waterloo Nazi Captives Are Liberated
Three more Waterloo soldiers who were captured by the Germans during the winter offensive have been liberated from prison camps, bringing this city’s total releases to five for that theater of operations.
Reported Friday as liberated from the interment camps by on-rushing forces of the American Army were:
Pvt. Donald Andreassen, 25, of 844 Fowler street.
Pvt. Robert Sackett, 32, of 1010 Randolph street.
Pfc. Paul Dean Newell, 19, of 516 West Fifth street.
Private Andreassen was liberated from Stalag 9B camp at Badorb, Germany, by approaching doughboys, according to a V-mail letter received by his wife, Mrs. Viola Andreassen, 844 Fowler street.
He had previously been reported missing in action since Dec. 15, 1944, and was later reported to be a war prisoner in Germany.
Private Andreassen took his training at Camp Wolters, Tex., Camp McCoy, Wis., and Camp Atterbury, Ind., prior to going overseas the latter part of October, 1943.
At the time of his capture he was serving with the 106th infantry division.
