Cadet Carl W. Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Anderson, 813 Main Street, is a member of the engineer corps stationed at Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas. A Central High School graduate, he was a machine operator before entering the service.

KILLED OVER ADRIATIC SEA
Sgt. Carl Anderson, Central Graduate, First Listed Missing
Sgt. Carl W. Anderson has been reported killed in action over the Adriatic sea according to word received from the War Department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Anderson, who moved from Sioux City to Billings, Mont., several months ago to make their home.
The ball turret gunner previously listed as missing August 24, 1944, was born at Billings, Mont., November 2, 1924, and came to Sioux City with his family when he was about 6 years old. He was graduated from Central high school in June 1942, and before entering the air corps in April 1943, he was employed at the Rock Island, Ill., arsenal.
Sgt. Anderson received his gunner’s wings at Harlingen, Tex., during the early part of 1944 and went overseas June 1, 1944. He served with a Liberator bomber group in Italy and had completed 27 missions over enemy territory before he was reported missing. He had been awarded the air medal and one oak leaf cluster to the air medal.
Survivors, besides his parents, are a sister, Grace, and a brother, Raymond, both of Billings.

Sgt. Anderson served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 739th Bomber Squadron, 454th Bomber Group, Heavy and was MIA Aug, 24, 1944. He is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy. He was also awarded the Purple Heart.
