Reported Killed
On December 28th, word was received by Floyd Agnes of Nodaway, that his son, Pfc. Wayne Agnew, was killed in action [accidental gunshot] on December 5, in France. Pfc. Agnew was serving with the army engineers, and has been in service about two years. He is a nephew of Mrs. L. F. Bowers of Corning.

Saturday word came to Mrs. Haley that her son-in-law, Wayne Agnes, had been killed in action in Italy. This awful war, and the sorrow it brings!

Wayne Burton Agnew was born Mar. 6, 1910 to Floyd Lee and Pearl Emma McKesson Agnew. He died Dec. 5, 1944 and is buried in Rhone American Cemetery, Draguignan, France and memorialized at Nodaway Cemetery, Nodaway, IA.
Pvt. Agnew served in World War II with the U.S. Army 713th Railway Operating Battalion and died in France from accidental gunshot wounds.
