ARRIVES OVERSEAS
Mrs. Ellen Abernathy, 615 13th street, has received word from the War Department that her son, Private Melvin Abernathy, hs arrived safely overseas. Private Abernathy received his basic training at Sheppard field, Texas, and his technical air training at Fort Logan, Colorado.

Private Walter (Mel) Abernathy, son of Mrs. Ellen Abernathy, 615 13th Street, has been on furlough, for the first time since going overseas in July, 1942, “somewhere in Australia” where he is stationed with the headquarters office of the air force. He was graduated from the technical air school at Fort Logan, Colorado, before going overseas.

IN UNIFORM
Sgt. Melvin Abernathy, a member of the headquarters office with the far east air force, is spending a 30-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Ellen Abernathy, 615 13th street. It is his first furlough since he entered the army three years ago. Sgt. Abernathy, overseas for 31 months, was stationed on Australia, New Guinea, and Leyte. His unit was awarded the presidential citation.

IN UNIFORM
Sgt. Melvin Abernathy has arrived in Seattle and will go to Fort Leavenworth, Kan., for discharge. Sgt. Abernathy has served in the Army 44 months and for 38 months has been stationed with the adjutant general publication section of Gen. MacArthur’s far east air forces headquarters in the Pacific. He will return to his home at 615 13th Street, Sioux City.
