William Otis Durham was born Oct. 13, 1907 to Charles and Anna McCoin Durham. He died June 19, 1948 and is buried in Fairfield Cemetery, Correctionville, IA.
Sgt. Durham served in World War II with the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps, Mine Planter and received the Distinguished Unit Badge with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Defense Medal (one star) and one Bronze Star on the American Defense Medal. He was taken prisoner at the fall of Corregidor and was on the famous death march. He spent many months in army hospitals after his release from the Japanese prison camp.
