Petty Officer Campbell served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chicago (CA-29) which was attacked twice by Japanese planes which resulted in the sinking of the vessel in the Solomon Sea. He was MIA/FOD/KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
