Col. Whitley served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as Flight Commander for the Burma Banshees, a P-47 fighter outfit of the Tenth Air Force, operating over Burma. He was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. Col. Whitley also served in Korea and Vietnam.
