George Iler was born Feb. 7, 1918 to George and Saide Marie Akers Iler. He died Dec. 18, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Taguig City, Philippines and at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, IL.
Chief Petty Officer Iler served in world War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Monaghan (DD-354) and was lost at sea during Typhoon Cobra.
