Benner Eugene “Gene” Graham was born Jan. 25, 1927 to Benner Virgil and Leona Viola Beck Graham. He died Sept. 29, 1945 and he is buried in Mitchellville Cemetery, Mitchellville, IA.

Petty Officer Graham served with the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Gerald Thiele Granat was born about 1922 to Max Michel and Elsie S. Granat. He died Dec. 10, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Petty Officer Granat served in World War II with the U.S. Naval Air Corps and was MIA and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart.

Raymond Edward Granger was born Oct. 14, 1922 to Lloyd and Hazel May Teague Granger. He died Dec. 7, 1941 and is memorialized at the Courts of the Missing, Court 3, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Granger served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Arizona (BB-39) when it was attacked at Pearl Harbor. He was MIA/FOD/KIA and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Gilbert C. “Kelly” Greenwalt was born Mar. 23, 1889 to John A. and Hettie R. Benson Cook Greenwalt. He died Sept. 28, 1979 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Col. Greenwalt served with the U.S. Army in World War I. After the war he served as the Secretary of the State of Iowa from 1931 to 1933. He was the Polk County Treasurer from 1937-1941, when he was called up for active duty in the Iowa National Guard, continuing all through World War II. He also served in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring from the service in 1955.

Son, Thomas Joseph Greenwalt was born Nov. 17, 1923 to Gilbert C. “Kelly” and Marguerita Elizabeth “Peg" Cook Greenwalt. He died Nov. 20, 1943 and is buried in Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA. Pvt. Greenwalt served with the U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division in World War II.

Son, William James Greenwalt was born Sept. 8, 1921 to Gilbert C. “Kelly” and Marguerita Elizabeth “Peg" Cook Greenwalt. He died Aug. 6, 2008 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Col. Greenwalt served with the U.S. Army in World War II and Vietnam.

Wilbur Ray Gregor was born Aug. 16, 1923 to Aldrich and Albia Edith Moses Gregor. He died Oct. 29, 2014 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.

1st Lt. Gregor served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and was awarded the Air Medal.

David Robert Griffith was born Nov. 13, 1920 to Robert and Mary Byer Griffith. he died Feb. 19, 2009 and is buried in Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, IA.

Col. Griffith served with the U.S. Air Force in World War II, stationed in Italy with the 2nd Fighter Squadron as a P-51 Fighter Pilot and flew 50 missions over central and southern Europe for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He joined the Iowa Air Guard which was activated during Korea and continued to fly with them for 29 years, becoming one of the country’s oldest fighter pilots until his retirement. He also received the Air Medal and 4 Oak Leaf Clusters.

Donald Monroe Griffith was born Aug. 12, 1915 to Clarence Edward and Fannie Stewart Griffith. He died May 24, 1943 and is buried in Rest Haven Cemetery, West Des Moines, IA.

Cyril G. Wolfe AKA Cyril Otto Gruening was born Apr. 29, 1901 to Otto and Agnes Lovejoy Gruening.He was the step-son of Roland R. Wolfe. He died Nov. 21, 1947 and is buried in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.

Sgt. Wolfe served in World War II with the U.S. Army 5th Ordnance Dept. at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland.
