Claude Oliver Gowey was born Apr. 5, 1921 to Claude E. and Julia Ann Adams Gowey. He died Dec. 7, 1941 and is memorialized at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii and at the USS Oklahoma Memorial, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Petty Officer Gowey served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB-37) and died in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
