Richard Reinhard “Dick” Pump was born Oct. 25, 1926 to Otto August and Anna Marie Barenthin Pump. He died Dec. 20, 2007 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, IA.
Petty Officer Pump served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ruddy (AM-380) in the Pacific Ocean near Japan and near Alaska. He also served in Korea. He earned a commendation for saving the life of a shipmate after their vessel sunk in the frigid waters near Alaska.
