Merrill Neal Vreeland was born Dec. 5, 1920 to Levi Loren and Alice Josephine Holden Vreeland. He died Dec. 13, 1944 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, IA.
Petty Officer Vreeland served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Nashville (CL-43) and was KIA in a kamikaze attack on that vessel during the liberation of the Philippines.
