Thornton Nielsen “Skip” Skibsted was born Nov. 27, 1924 to Martin A. and Lona Nielsen Skibsted. He died Feb. 3, 1987 and is buried in Newell Cemetery, Newell, IA. Sgt. Skibsted served with the U.S. Army in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.

Ellis Carter “Scotty" Skiles was born Oct. 31, 1924 to Brisbin and Bertha May Miller Skiles. He died Feb. 10, 2005 and is buried in Larchwood Cemetery, Larchwood, IA. Lt. Col. Skiles served his country in the U.S. Air Force, receiving his pilot’s training on several fighter planes, including the P-51. He served during WWII and Vietnam and continued his service with the 185th Iowa Air Guard, retiring as an Honorary Lt. Col. with a total of 32 years of service.

Henry Brisbin Skiles was born Mar. 1, 1927 to Brisbin and Bertha May Miller Skiles. Henry served with the U.S. Army Parachute Maintenance Company, 11th Airborne Division in World War II.
