Ralph G. Ballou was born Nov. 16, 1921 to Edwin Otho and Kathryn Ballou. He died Dec. 9, 1944 and is buried in Cedar Memorial Park, Cedar Rapids, IA.
Sgt. Ballou served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 719th Bomb Squadron and was MIA/FOD/KIA in Italy. He was a passenger aboard B-24H Liberator #41-29307 which departed Grottaglia, Italy on a transfer flight to Naples. The bomber was observed on take-off and was not seen or heard from again. Despite searches, the wreck site was not discovered until July, 1945, in a deep ravine, south of Naples. It had crashed in poor weather, All fifteen aboard perished. Sgt. Ballou was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

Pvt. Bauer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps Headquarters Squadron, 19th Bomber Group, Heavy. He became a POW of the Japanese in the “Fall of the Philippines” in May, 1942 and died while a POW at Camp 4, O’Donnel, Luzon, Philippines. He was awarded the POW Medal and the Purple Heart.
