Dr. Nachtwey served in World War II as a Major with the U.S. Army 315th Medical Battalion, 90th Infantry Division. His unit landed in Normandy on D-Day and he served as a medical and triage officer in France and Germany. He was awarded The Silver Star and Soldiers Medal.
