Seaman Second Class Andy Wisner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wisner, 2646 S. Steele Street, has finished his training at the seamanship school at North Port, Long Island and has reported for sea duty at New London, Conn.
Private William Mortensen, United States Marines, has arrived safely somewhere in the South Pacific, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. William Mortensen, 209 W. 23rd Street. He was graduated from Central High School and enlisted last December.
Aviation Cadet Student Judson C. Follett, son of Judson G. Follett of Los Angeles and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Longval, 1823 Jones Street, has been transferred from Atlantic City, N.J. to the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Richard Ross Costello, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Costello, 512 Market Street, was graduated at navy pier, Chicago as an aviation metal-smith.
Gunder Fredrick Fribourgh, a son of Mrs. J.G. Fribourgh, 1614 S. Royce Street, was among the more than 1,000 midshipmen to be graduated from the United States naval reserve midshipmen’s school at the University of Notre Dame with a commission as ensign. He was graduated from Iowa State College in 1941.
Cadet Robert P. Walsh, son of W.P. Walsh, 1507 Main Street, Sioux City and James J. Carter, a son of James L. Carter, 324 W. 20th Street, South Sioux City, were among the army aviation cadets graduated recently from Marena Flying School in Tucson, Ariz.
Carey Boyd Okey, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Okey, 3818 Fourth Avenue, has arrived at State Teachers College in St. Cloud., Minnesota to begin a five-month army air force course.
Lewis M. Slater, son of Mrs. Grace Slater, 807 W. Sixth Street, has completed a course as an aviation mechanic at Amarillo army Air Field, Texas.
Gale D.V. Stevens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Stevens, 711 Plymouth Street, has been graduated from the army air forces advanced flying school at Moody Field, Georgia and commissioned as second lieutenant with the rating of army pilot.
Lieut. Stevens was presented a saber as the top ranking member of cadet class 43-E. Presentation of the saber was made by Miss Sylvia Chambliss, noted beauty and aquatic star, who was selected “Miss 43-E” by the students.
Lieut. Stevens attended Morningside College two years and was active in athletics, being a member of the college basketball and track team.
Eliott W. Wooldridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Wooldridge, 1920 Summit Street, has been commissioned a second lieutenant after completing the officer’s candidate course at the infantry school, at Fort Benning, Georgia. Lieut. Wooldridge held the rank of corporal before being commissioned. He attended Central High School and the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.
Corporal Irving E. Rhymer, 1005th S. Helen Street, has been graduated from the armored force school communication department at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Private Richard A. Kudrle, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Kudrle, 723 W. Fourth Street, was a member of a class of qualified automotive mechanic recently graduated from the armored force school at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
George Goudie Williges, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry George Williges, 2016 Summit Street, has arrived at the Camp Wolters, Texas, infantry replacement center to begin basic training.
William B. Fahey, brother of Elizabeth M. Fahey, 2518 Correctionville Road has been promoted to corporal at the army air forces navigation school, Hondo, Texas.

Spirit Lake, Iowa—Special: Berkley W. Bedell, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Bedellk, was graduated from the army air force school at Napier field, Dothan, Ala., and was given his wings and a second lieutenant’s commission. Bedell also received a medal for excellent gunnery. He was ordered to report at Randolph field to serve as an instructor. He entered the army air force last August and has trained at Greeville, Miss; Nashville, Tenn., Maxwell field at Decatur, Ala., and at the school of Montgomery, Ala. He had just completed two weeks special gunnery at Englin, Florida.
Hornick, Iowa—Auxiliary Ada A. Steinhoff of Hornick has completed training in the motor transport school of the first women’s army auxiliary training center at Fort Des Moines.
Ute, Iowa—Flight Officer Archie O. Steen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Steen of Ute, has been transferred to Bowman field, Louisville, Kentucky.
Orange City, Iowa—Aviation Cadet Jacob L. Foreman, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Foreman of Orange City, was commissioned a lieutenant in the army air forces at Turner field, Albany, Georgia. He was presented his wings upon graduation.

Akron, Iowa – Sergeant James R. Sweeney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Sweeney of Akron, has returned to Camp Crowder, Missouri, after spending a 10-day furlough with his parents. Sergeant Sweeney entered the service last December 12.
Sloan, Iowa – Lieut. Glen Redmond of Atlas, Oklahoma, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Redmond. Lieut. Redmond is on a 10-day leave and will go to Boise, Idaho, where he will be stationed. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Redmond have four sons in the service.
Moville, Iowa – Second Class Seaman Burnell Strohbehn is home on leave from Camp Endicott, Rhode Island, where he is with the Sea Bees. He is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Strohbehn here.
Mrs. Strohbehn accompanied her husband here and will remain with her parents.
Turin, Iowa – Private Chester C. Carroll, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester L. Carroll, has been graduated from the armored force school at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as a qualified automotive mechanic.

Akron, Iowa – Private First Class Howard Manning of Foster field, Texas, is spending a furlough here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Manning.
Sheldon, Iowa—Ronald E. Grieser of Sheldon has been taking the C.A.A. war training service cross country course at Drake University. The C.A.A. now gives initial flight training to all army and navy fliers. Enrolled in the army air corps enlisted reserve corps, Grieser will be called to duty as an instructor or transport pilot upon completion of his training.
Salix, Iowa – Private Rene Alfred Richard, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Richard of Salix, is nearing completion of his basic training at Camp Roberts, California. Another son, Sergeant Arthur P Richards, Jr. has been admitted to Lawson General Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, for treatment. A third son, Stephen P. Richard, has been granted a medical discharge. Staff Sergeant Harvey O. Richard, a fourth son, is stationed at Gowen field, Boise, Idaho. His wife, Gladys, has left to join him there.
Correctionville, Iowa—Lee Earl Smith of Correctionville is enrolled in the Drake University C. A.A. war training service cross country course. Smith, 23, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl W. Smith. Before starting training he was engaged in farming and mink raising. He attended Correctionville High School where he played football.

Corporal Thaddeus S. Rickwa, son of Mrs. Antoinette Rickwa, 2620 Jay Avenue, has graduated from the noncommissioned officers staff course at Edgewood arsenal, Maryland. The course qualified Corporal Rickwa for the chemical section in the marine corps to which he will be attached.
Private First Class Francis Sullivan, son of Mert Sullivan, 4031 Division Street, is attending the enlisted motor mechanics course at the infantry school, Fort Benning, Georgia.
Private First Class Vernon W. McLarty is spending a seven-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.G. McLarty, 707 Plymouth Street. He will return to Red River ordnance depot, Texarkana, Tex.
Private First Class Earl C. Dirks returned to his base in Alamogordo, N.M. after spending a six-day furlough visiting in the home of his parents, \Mr. and Mrs. John Dirks, 4346 Tyler Street. Richard A.L. Dirks, a brother, has recently been promoted to the rank of petty officer second class and is now stationed somewhere in the Atlantic.
Private William F. McDonald, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. McDonald, 3025 Washington Avenue, recently was graduated from the army air forces technical command school at the Buick Motors division, G.M.C., Flint Michigan. He was among the five highest men in a class which completed a course in airplane engine overhaul.
Aviation Cadet Jess (Joe) Tattersall, whose wife and son reside at 2030 S. Maple Street, has been classified as a pilot and has begun training at the preflight aviation cadet center, San Antonio, Texas.
Lloyd Kronick, son of Mrs. Louis Kronick, 1100 Jennings Street, has been promoted to sergeant in the recreational division in Hawaii.
Corporal Thomas M. Dougherty left Wednesday for Camp Berkeley, Texas, after spending a 15-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Edith D. Dougherty, 1020 Pierce Street.
Sergeant Sherman Young of Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, is spending a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Young, 2616 Cedar Street.
Norman H. Jacobson and Ivan J. Wagner, Sioux Cityans, are among the 13 Iowa’s who this week began intensified training in basic flying at Goodfellow field, Texas. They are aviation cadets. Cadet Jacobson is the son of Mrs. Hazel Winters, 2100 S. Helen Street. His wife resides at 616 15th Street. Cadet Wagner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wagner, 4115 Van Buren Street and is a graduate of Central High School and Trinity College.
Private Alex Sirken, 308 S. Fowler Street, who has been stationed at Camp Adair, Oregon, has arrived to spend a week’s furlough with his family. He has been transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington.
Private First Class Wilfred L. Buck, formerly associated with the Woodbury County Savings Bank, has completed basic army training and has been transferred from Fort Warren, Wyoming to Woodbury College, Los Angeles, where he is to receive eight weeks training for service in the ordnance division, according to word received by Mrs. Buck, 2203 Isabella Street.
Everett L. Hubbs, son of James W. Hubbs, 4303 Morningside Avenue has been promoted to chief machinist’s mate. He is stationed at Philadelphia.
Vernon Roy Watson, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.E. Watson, 217 Cook Street, is at the naval training station at Farragut, Idaho, for basic training.
Jack L. Ward, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Ward, 3608 Stone Avenue, has completed a course of studies as an aviation mechanic in the army air forces training school at the Amarillo, Texas air field.
Clifton T. Williams, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Williams, 4507 Manor Circle and Howard V. Foote, 22, 407 13th Street, have been selected for special training in the service school at the Great Lakes Naval Station. Williams will take a fire control man’s course and Foote a gunner mate’s course.

Orville E. Sailors, 1016 Seventh Street, has advanced to a corporal’s rank at the Coffeyville army air field in Kansas.
Kathryn Steele Horrigan, daughter of Mrs. John F. Horrigan, 3101 Morrison Avenue, has completed an officer’s training course at Smith College at Northampton, Mass. and received an ensign’s commission in the Waves. Ensign Horrigan will go on active duty immediately. She is the former Morningside College student and received her B.S. degree at the University of Nebraska. After graduation she taught in the public schools at Norfolk, Nebraska and Forrest Park, Illinois.
Sergeant R.H. Schoeberl, stationed in the headquarters company of the infantry at San Luis Bisto, California, is spending a 10-day furlough at the home of his mother, Mrs. Emma Schoeberl, 1001 Nebraska Street.
First Lieut. John K. Marriott, who lived in the Wirick apartments, was a member of a recent graduating officer’s class at the medical service, Carlisle barracks, Pennsylvania. He is in the veterinary corps.
James J. Cobb, son of Dr. and Mrs. E.C. Cobb, Bellevue apartments, has been promoted from second to first lieutenant in an armored field artillery division at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. Lieut. Cobb, who was graduated from West Point in January, was graduated from the student basic officers course at Fort Still, Oklahoma, last April.
Warren R. Stienstra, who was a member of the army air reserve corps group at the University of Iowa which was called into service in February, 1943, has nearly completed a course of flight training at Milwaukee State Teachers college in Wisconsin. His step-father and mother are Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Wilson, 1815 Rebecca Street.
Hospital Assistant First Class Katherine Hubbard, has completed initial training in the Wave’s at Hunter College, New York City, and has been transferred for duty at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital.
Lieut. Robert J. Petrucka, has reported for duty at the Columbia, South Carolina army air base and has been assigned as a bombardier to a medium bombardment group. He took training, preliminary to winning the gold bars, at Santa Anna, California and Roswell, New Mexico and received advanced training at the Carlsbad, New Mexico air base. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Petrucka, 1501 S. Royce Street.
Robert F. Van Bogart, whose wife lives at 3428 Fifth Street, is in his third week of training as an electrician’s mate at the training school for electricians at the naval armory, St. Louis, Missouri.
Sergeant Sylvester McIntyre of the South Plains Flying School, Lubbock, Texas, has returned there after spending a 15-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Frances McIntyre, 717 Virginia Street.
Corporal Laverne L. Pranke is spending a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pranke, 5000 Correctionville Road after completing a seven-week course in the armored force school, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Corporal Pranke is a graduate of East High School.
Third Class Petty Officer L.F. Lingner left Friday after spending a 12-day leave with his mother, Mrs. Gladys Lingner, 2902 Douglas Street. Officer Lingner is an instructor on the firing range at Jacksonville, Florida
Charles R. Blair, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor D. Blair, 621 Wall Street, is at the naval training school for electricians at Purdue University, LaFayette, Indiana studying to become a naval electrician’s mate.
William Flanagan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Flanagan, 110 Cook Street, has been transferred to Camp Haan, California.
Glenn Thompson has been promoted to private first class at Fort Riley, Kansas. His wife resides at 1200 Court Street.
Lauren M. Ferguson has been promoted to sergeant. He is stationed somewhere in Africa. Sergeant Ferguson was employed by Neisner Bros. before leaving for army service.

Robert E. Finley, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.S. Finley, Wirick Apartments, stationed at Godman field, Fort Knox, Kentucky has been promoted to first sergeant. He is on duty with a reconnaissance squadron, training aerial combat crews. Sergeant Finley is a graduate of Trinity High School. He enlisted in the army air forces April 15, 1941.
Everett L. Hubbs, son of James W. Hubbs, 4303 Morningside Avenue has been promoted from aviation machinist, first class, to chief aviation machinist at Philadelphia.
James Katzenberger, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Katzenberger, 1713 W. Sixth Street, has returned to the Farragut, Idaho, naval training station, after spending a seven-day furlough in the home of his parents.
Third Class Petty Officer Frank D. Swesey of Farragut, Idaho, is spending a 12-day leave visiting his wife and parents, 106 George Street.
Walter L. Fischer, warrant machinist with the navy’s troop transport amphibious command, is visiting his wife and parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Fischer, 2109 S. Patterson Street on a 10-day leave. Warrant Officer Fischer recently returned from the north Pacific theater of operations. This is the first time he has been home in more than four years.

Sanborn, Iowa—Sergeant Ogden Childers of Camp Barkley, Texas, is spending a furlough here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Childers. He is a mechanic in an engineering battalion.
Sanborn, Iowa- Corporal Philip Sawyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Sawyer, visited his parents en route to rejoin his squadron at Pampa, Texas, having finished his training at the Ford aircraft school at Dearborn, Michigan.
Sanborn, Iowa—Gail Pitts, in service in the navy, has been made a second class petty officer. He is an electrician on board ship.
Sanborn, Iowa—Private Allison DeGooyer returned to Iowa City after a short visit here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs John DeGooyer, before being activated soon in the army medical corps.
Sanborn, Iowa—Staff Sergeant Jack Hutterer, youngest son of Dr. and Mrs. E. G. Hutterer of Minneapolis, was killed in action in Tunisia on May 8, 1943. He was born in Sanborn in 1920 and was graduated from Holy Trinity High School at Winsted, Minnesota.
Moville, Iowa – Sergeant Arthur M. Johnson, Moville, is visiting his father, F.W. Johnson and friends on a 10-day furlough. He is stationed at Camp Crowder, Missouri.
Anthon, Iowa – Private First Class Charles Cleo Yanacheak, son of Charles Yanacheak of Anthon, has been graduated from the armament school at Lowry field, Denver, Colorado.

Akron, Iowa—Corporal Clayton Manning, headquarters company, engineer training replacement center, Fort Leonard wood, Missouri, arrived on a one-day furlough to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Manning. Private Howard Manning, stationed at Foster field, Texas, is vising at home.
Sheldon, Iowa—Private Martin Broekman, son of Mrs. Helena Broekman, was wounded in action in Africa IN April. Mrs. Broekman has two other sons in the service. Private Peter Broekman who has not sent to Africa, because he was hospitalized and Private William Broekman, stationed at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.
Glen Nelson who is receiving his boot training at Farragut, Idaho is home on a leave visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. N.O. Nelson of Sheldon.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brown of Sheldon received a letter from their son, Private Elmer C. Brown, wounded in Africa, saying that he is back in the United States and is in the Halloran General Hospital on Staten Island.
Storm Lake, Iowa—Jim Carney, naval radioman, second class, has returned to the west coast for flight training following a leave spent here in the home of his mother, Mrs. Sadie Carney. He recently returned from the south Pacific, where he served as a radioman-bombardier-gunner on a navy Grumman Avenger on forays against Japanese airfields and ship concentration. He is one of four sons in the serve. Paul, a marine sergeant, is somewhere in the south Pacific. Charles is at Sacramento, California, taking army radio training and John is studying aviation radio with the marines at San Diego.
Spencer, Iowa—Sergeant Eldon Knutson, son of Mrs. Nellie Knutson of Spencer, has been awarded the Purple Heart for Military He has been in three merits’ in Africa. He was wounded about April 9 in service there but after receiving treatment returned to battle. He has been in three major engagements. His brother, Corporal Harlan Knutson, also is in Africa and their brother, Aviation cadet Donald Knutson, is stationed at Lansing, Michigan.

Sanborn, Iowa –Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Jerpbak have received a letter from their son, Sergeant L. Adrian Jerpbak, in England, in which he said that while on furlough he visited the place where his mother’s ancestors have lived. He describes the country as the pretties’ spot he had seen in England.
Sheldon, Iowa—Lieut. Robert Houlihan of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, is visiting his parents, Major and Mrs. L. A. Houlihan He is an instructor in the field artillery at Fort Sill.
Danbury, Iowa—Private Thomas L. Fitzpatrick, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. T.L. Fitzpatrick of Danbury, is now stationed at Miami Beach, Florida. He is in the army air corps.
Moville, Iowa—Sergeant Arthur Johnson of Camp Crowder, Missouri, is spending a 10-day furlough in the home of his father, F.W. Johnson.
Moville, Iowa—Cadet Slade Nash of West Point is spending a 10-day furlough in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nash.
Hospers, Iowa—Private Henry Boender left for Fort Riley, Kansas, after spending a furlough with his parents.
Hospers, Iowa – Private Vernon Van Donselaar returned to Boardman field, Oregon, after spending his furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Van Donselaar.
Hospers, Iowa—Mr. and Mrs. Neal Houtsma received a Purple Heart award for their son, Henry Houtsma, who was wounded in battle in Africa in April. The reports were that he is still in a hospital.

Private Arthur H. Syverson of the army air corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Syverson, 426 Casselman Street, recently completed a training course in teletype mechanics at Chanute field, Illinois. He is stationed at Hammer Field, Fresno, California, a replacement center, awaiting assignment.

Ensign L. C. Wilson of the naval air corps, having completed extensive training with the American airlines at Fort Worth, Texas, is home on 15-day leave. After a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Wilson, 3232 Jackson Street, Ensign Wilson will report to a squadron in Kansas City for transport and cargo flying.

Aviation Cadet Samuel J. Bach, son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Bach, has arrived for training at the army air forces basic flying school, Cochran field, Macon, George.

Private Frank C. (Shorty) Mills, whose wife resides at 500 Fawcet Street, has been transferred from New Jersey to Florida to complete training in the air service signal corps.

Maurice Connolly, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. J Connolly, 3336 Nebraska Street, has been promoted to sergeant, according to word received by his wife, 1601 Grandview Boulevard. Sergeant Connolly is stationed with the Marine Corps at Oceanside, California. Four brothers in the armed forces are Petty Officer Second Class Edward Connolly of the navy and Sergeant Robert Connolly, Technician Bill Connolly and Private James Connolly, all of the army.

Private Chester J. Godfredson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Godfredson, Sergeant Bluff, is training with the infantry in Great Britain. Private Godfredson, is a graduate of Salix consolidated high school.

Private Dwight H. Bergquist, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Bergquist, 1309 28th Street, has completed basic training at Atlantic City, N. J. and has been transferred to an administration school at Fargo, North Dakota.

Lieut. L. E. Scheyer, brother of Bernard Schreyer, 4608 Morningside Avenue, has returned to Austin, Texas after a two-week visit with his brother and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Schreyer, Pocahontas, Iowa.

Corporal E. George Parmenter, son of Mrs. Ann Robinson, 2121 Douglas Street has been transferred from Camp Crowder, Missouri to Washington State College, Pullman. He has been assigned to the army student training unit for a nine-month course in advanced engineering, after which he will be a candidate for officers training. Corporal Parmenter is a graduate of Central High School and Wentworth Military Academy, Lexington, Missouri.

James E. Stewart, a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Stewart, 321 S. John Street, was promoted this week to private first class and enrolled in a mechanics school at Kessler Field, Mississippi

Private First Class Martin D. Purcell, a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Purcell, 1331 S. Paxton Street, is a member of a class of radio operators graduated recently by the communication department of an armored force school at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Lyman J. Dickens, gunner’s mate third class in the Seabea’s, has arrived to spend a nine-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Dickens, 616 17th Street. He is stationed at Camp Endicott, New Jersey.

Don Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Miller, 1604 W. Fifth Street, was given a seaman second class rating after finishing boot training with the coast guard at Manhattan, New York. His wife, suffering with a throat infection, is in the Marine Hospital at Staten Island, New York.

Private Loren W. Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Peterson, 3217 Marshall Avenue, has arrived at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri for preliminary training.

Roger M. Lemroeux, first class machinist’s mate, has completed basic training at the submarine school at New London, Conn. He is a son of A. Lemroeux, 1201 W. Third Street. He is a former Akron High School student where he lettered in football and has been in the navy the last seven years.

Private First Class Earle H. Frazier has been transferred from the Tishomingo, Oklahoma, clerical school to Selfridge field, Michigan. He is a son of Mrs. Harvey L. Frazier, 711 W. Second Street.

Robert A. Lenhardt, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Lenhardt, 321 West Street, has been promoted from First lieutenant to captain at Honolulu where he is attached to infantry. Capt. Lenhardt has been in service since March 4, 1942 and most of that time has been stationed in Honolulu. He is a graduate of Central High School and the University of South Dakota. His father is Woodbury County deputy sheriff.

Sheldon, Iowa – Lieut. Richard Smith of Sheldon, of the Marine Air Corps, is stationed at Memphis, Tennessee at the Marine detachment center as instructor of cadets.
Sheldon, Iowa—Donald Brower of Sheldon is stationed in the quartermaster corps at Fort Warren, Wyoming and will finish his course soon.
Sheldon, Iowa- Mike McAlpine, member of the naval reserve medical corps, will report to St. Ambrose College, Davenport, July 1.
Sheldon, Iowa—LeRoy Oester is stationed at Fort McCellan, Alabama, receiving basic training.
Wall Lake, Iowa—Word was received from the war department by Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Morley, stating that their son, Hubert, a radio man third class is interned at branch 2, prisoner’s camp at Tokyo, Japan, Morley was on Bataan with Gen. MacArthur. He was first reported missing and then later to be a prisoner on Formosa Island. His parents have written him but have never heard from him since he was taken prisoner.
Cushing, Iowa—Richard A. Walrod, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Walrod of Cushing, has been sworn into the navy and is located at Camp Ward, Farragut, Idaho. He has been studying navigation while employed on the west coast and will be a navigator in the navy.
Cushing, Iowa—Robert R. Baumann has received orders to report at Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa for preliminary training in the naval air corps reserve. He enlisted in August 1942 through the Kansas City naval aviation selection board. Robert is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Baumann.
Cushing, Iowa—Ensign Rolland E. Grefe, accompanied by his bride, the former Miss Mary Cruikshank of Algona, is spending a leave in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Grefe. Ensign Grefe finished a course of special training at Princeton University and now will report to a station on the east coast
Salix, Iowa—Private Leonard J. Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Wood, has returned to Sloan field, Midland, Texas after spending a 10-day furlough with his family here.
Sibley, Iowa – Auxiliary Olive M. Peterson will report in Des Moines June 16 for duty in the Waacs.
Sibley, Iowa- Miss Thyra Siemon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Siemon of Sibley, who was recently received her commissions as a lieutenant, is now in charge of 17 nurses at the United States naval hospital, San Diego, California.
Sibley, Iowa—Lieut. LeRoy E. Hoeck of the medical corps was graduated from the medical field service school, Carlisle barracks, Pennsylvania. Well known in Sibley, Lieut. Hoeck is a graduate of Iowa University where he received his M.D. degree. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoeck.

Norman Agathon, former reporter for The Journal, who now is stationed at Camp Campbell, Kentucky, where he is attached to the public relations office, has been promoted to the grade of technical sergeant.
Staff Sergeant Charles O. Davis, son of Mr and Mrs. Andrew Davis, 810 13th Street, is home on furlough. He is an instructor of roentgenology at Memphis, Tennessee.
Harold M. Blades, son of Mrs. H.V. Blades, 2523 Silver Street, has been promoted to the rank of corporal and is now stationed at the Fitzsimmons general hospital, Denver, Colorado where he is taking a course in laboratory technical school.
Harry H. Elsberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Elsberg, 623 Virginia Street, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. Sergeant Elsberg is a physical instructor at the army air forces technical training command, Fresno, California.
Jack A. Brandon has been promoted to seaman first class in the coast guard. He is stationed at Southwest Harbor, Me. Brandon was inducted in October 1942 and received his basic training at St. Augustine, Florida, His wife and daughter are leaving to visit him at his station.
Aviation Student Mark V. Hughes, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark V. Hughes, 512 26th Street has been transferred from Superior State Teachers College, Superior, Wisconsin to Santa Ana air base at Santa Ana, California. He has qualified for pilot training and will begin preflight training on June 23.
Private Gene Fleming has returned to his base at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas after spending a 10-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Fleming, 2927 Jones Street.
Private Bernard Slotsky, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Slotsky, 712 34th Street, is spending a seven-day furlough here with his parents. Mr. Slotsky is with the meteorology detachment stationed at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. A brother Aviation Cadet Lawrence Slotsky, stationed at San Antonio, Texas will begin primary pilot training June 26.
Bert E. Young, husband of Mabel Young, 2325 W. Second Street has received a third class guneer’s mate rating at the United States naval training station at Great Lakes, Illinois. He completed a 16-week course.
Arthur William Curry, husband of Mrs. Arthur Curry, Sioux City, has completed a 10-week course as a dental technician at the naval station at Sampson, New York.
Staff Sergeant Donald McCarthy, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McCarthy, 1318 S. Glass Street, has returned to Camp Barkeley, Texas, after spending a 10-day furlough with his parents. He is in a field artillery unit.
Corporal Robert S. Mastin has been transferred from Camp Kohler, California to the signal training battalion at Davis College, Davis, California. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mastin, 3956 Jefferson Street.
Merrill E. Potts, fireman first class in the navy, left Tuesday for the east after spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy V. Potts, 3310 Ridge Avenue. Mr. Potts wears campaign bars, for the European-African area, Asiatic-Pacific area and middle-eastern area.
Seaman Second Class Dale F. Shoemaker of Camp Waldron, Farragut, Idaho, is spending a 12-day leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orin F. Shoemaker, 2900 S. Cypress Street.
William F. Oelklaus, serving in the armed forces at March field, California, has been promoted to staff sergeant. Oelklaus, former employee of the Montgomery Ward Co., was inducted into the air corps May 20, 1942. His wife, the former Bonnie Shoemaker, is residing at Riverside, California.
William A. Thompson, seaman second class, has reported back to Farragut, Idaho after a 12-day leave spent with his mother, Mrs. T.C. Thompson, 1202 Court Street.
Herbert Ellis Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs J.H. Anderson, 1614 W. 28th Street, has been promoted to first class petty officer in the navy. He is stationed at Clinton, Oklahoma and has been in the navy two years.

Warren Sanford Stone, son of H.W. Stone, 4307 Central Avenue, who is a retired lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps, has been promoted to captain at Bolling field, District of Columbia, where he is stationed in charge of civilian personnel at the army air base.
Corporal Virgil T, Considine, son of Mrs. Irene Considine, 1418 Main Street, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant. He is stationed somewhere in England.
Private Martin E. Fetterman Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Fetterman, 1713 Paul Avenue, has been assigned to the quartermaster replacement center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Private Fetterman was inducted into the service two months ago.
Ensign Charles B. Clayton, Jr., and Mrs. Clayton of Whiting, Iowa, were in Sioux City Thursday as guest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kahoun. The ensign is a pilot and recently has been in service in the Caribbean area.
Neil C. Scott, 3619 Glenn Avenue, Burton M. Lipshutz, 2919 Sunset Circle and James E. Griffin, 719 37th Street, have been sworn into the army enlisted reserve corps. Under the army’s new program for 17-year-olds, they will be given the privilege of choosing the month in which they wish to be called to active duty within six months after reaching their 18th birthday.
Private Harold C. Jensen. Son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Jensen, 4516 Polk Street, has graduated from an intensive course in plane mechanic at Sheppard field, Texas, where he is attached to army air corps.
Ensign John W. Keane, former Sioux City attorney, who for the last three years has been with the naturalization division of the department of justice at Spokane, Washington, has entered training in the naval reserve at the University of Arizona at Tucson, Arizona. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Keane, 1915 W. Fourth Street.
Aviation Cadet Robert K. Raeside has been made an element leader at the primary army contract flying school at Sikeston, Missouri, where he is in training for the army air corps. He is the son of J.H. Raeside, Sr. 1301 23d Street.
Private Keith Douglas Kagley has returned to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, after spending a seven-day furlough with Mrs. Edna Kagley of Sergeant Bluff and Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen of Sioux City.
Henry L. Canner, seaman second class has been transferred from the Farrigut, Idaho, training station to the naval training school at Los Angeles, California. He will receive training as a signalman in the communication division.
Private Jules M. Hultgren, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Hultgren, 2118 Hamilton Street, has completed basic training in the army air force at Atlantic City, New Jersey, and has been transferred to City College, New York for special training in the engineer corps.

Rasmussen, a brother is stationed at Camp Scott naval training station, Farragut, Idaho. William N. Private John R. Tokarczyk of the marines is spending a week’s leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Tokarczyk, 1023 S. Fairmont Street. Private Tokarczyk’s brother, Lieut. Walter J. Tokarczyk, and his wife left recently for Childress, Texas after a visit at the home. He recovered his wings at Mission, Texas.
Sergeant Orvil Wauhob and his wife are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Wauhob, 617 Wall Street. He is on a furlough from Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
Private Donald W. Lane has arrived in England, according to word received Thursday by Mrs. Lane, 604 Center Street. He was transferred to Europe from Kelly field, San Antonio, Texas, where he had been stationed since March.
Daryl O. Newman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray A. Newman, 1506 Fair View Boulevard, has been promoted to Corporal at the armored force replacement training center at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Corporal Newman, a former packing plant employee has been in the service since September.

Private Emmett M. Keegan, a member of an army air corps service squadron at Barksdale field, Louisiana, is on 15-day furlough, visiting his wife at 1633 W. Fourth Street and mother, Mrs. Anna Keegan, 814 W. Fifth Street, as well as other relatives in Iowa and Nebraska. He was inducted April 20, 1942.
Lieut. Floyd W. Thompson, attached to the veterinary corps of the army has completed a six-week training period for duty with field troops in the medical field service school at Carlisle barracks, Pennsylvania. He was one in a class of 465 physicians, dentists, veterinarians and sanitary engineers to finish the course. In Sioux City Lieut. Thompson’s home is at 912 23d Street. He is an Iowa State College graduate.
Corporal James W. Litzberger, stationed at the Birmingham, Ala. Air base, is visiting his wife and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Thatcher, 3934 Monroe Street.
George V. Boyle, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Boyle, 1218 14th Street, has been promoted to private first class. He is stationed at Camp Irwin, California and enlisted April 1, 1943.

Richard B. Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis W. Schultz, 718 Jennings Street, celebrated his 17th birthday anniversary Friday by enlisting in the Marines at the recruiting office in the Federal Building here.
Neil Gorchow, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gorchow, 1716 Center Street will leave July 1 for Davenport, where he will enroll in St. Ambrose College to begin V-12 Naval training. Neil, who enlisted in April, will be graduated June 24 from a Chicago High School.
William L. Stoakes, who enlisted a year ago in the signal corps reserves and has completed his studies at Northwestern University, is spending two weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Stoakes, 2119 S. St Aubin Street. He will report June 30 at Camp Crowder, Missouri.

Sheldon, Iowa—Dr. J.R. Brown left Sheldon for Camp Grant, Rockford, Illinois, for army induction and from there he will go to Carlisle barracks, Pennsylvania for six weeks training. Mrs. Brown and son Hugh will visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Frisbee, at Sheldon, Until Dr. Brown is finally located.
Arnolds Park, Iowa—Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harker of Okoboji have received an official telegram stating that their son, Sergeant Ernest K. Harker, is safe and well in a German prison camp. They received a letter Monday, post-marked in Germany, in which he stated that his bomber was shot down and landed in the water, but he was unhurt. He also stated that most of the crew were safe and well. He had been officially reported missing as of May 17.
LeMars, Iowa-- Leonard J. Hansen, 20, son of Emil Hansen, LeMars, has been promoted from private to corporal. A member of the army air forces, he is taking a radio operator course at central signal corps school at Camp Crowder, Missouri. He has three brothers in the armed forces. They are Corporal Cletus, coast artillery, Miller field, New York, Private First Class Lawrence, infantry, somewhere in Africa and Private First Class Alfred, air forces, Wendover field, Utah.
Sanborn, Iowa—Delbert Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Miller, has been promoted to Corporal. He also was a pitcher on the military police baseball team at Williamsport, Pa.
Private Henry Kreykes, with the engraving branch of the army air corps has been transferred to alliance, Nebraska from Bradley field, Connecticut.

Private Reuben T. Brown has arrived in England, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Brown, 613 Virginia Street. He formerly was stationed at Hamner field, California.

Odebolt, Iowa—Corporal J Edward Hart of Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is at the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. W.E. Hart, on a convalescent furlough. He was in the hospital for a month with a fractured heel prior to coming to Odebolt.
Odebolt, Iowa-- Lieut. Conwell W. Johnson of Fort Warren, Wyoming, left Sunday for Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi, after a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Johnson.
Odebolt, Iowa-- Second Lieut. Edward Stauffer, stationed with the marines at Quantico, Virginia is visiting with his mother, Mrs. Wayne C. Stauffer.
Spencer, Iowa-- Elmer Peterson, well known Spencer man, was killed in action, according to word received in Spencer by friends from his mother, Mrs. Marie Peterson of Los Angeles. She had a telegram from the government saying he was killed when his ship was torpedoed. Peterson was in the garage business here with the late Gus Anderson until about four years ago when Peterson began to work as a mechanic for the Hart Motor Company. He enlisted last fall and was last home in the early spring. He is survived by his mother and one sister, Mrs. Alice Blake.

Sheldon, Iowa—Capt. Wayne Miller of Sheldon arrived to spend a leave with his wife and family. He is stationed at Orlando, Florida.
Sheldon, Iowa—Paul McNutt of Sheldon is with the army air corps at Topeka, Kansas and Merle McNutt is stationed at the navy pier in Chicago. Both are sons of Mrs. Homer McNutt of Sheldon.

Sergeant Dick Haviland, stationed at Victorville, California, is spending a 15-day furlough with his wife at 810 Bluff Street, and his mother, Mrs. Jack Neuman , 410 13th Street.
Corporal Tryg Rostad, stationed at Drew Field, Florida, is spending a 15-day furlough with his wife at 1011 ½ 24th Street and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Rostad, 1517 24th Street. His wife will accompany him on his return to camp.
Vincent C. Burns, petty officer second class, formerly stationed with the naval air corps at Corpus Christi, Texas, has been chosen for an 18-month course in naval officers’ training. He will report July 1 at Southwestern Louisiana institute at Lafayette. Mr. Burns is on leave at the home of his mother, Mrs. Lucille Burns, 1511 W. 19th Street.
Private First Class Howard A. Goebel has been transferred from Camp Beale, California to El Paso, Texas for a two-month course in the William Beaumont General hospital. Private Goebel is a son of Mrs. Kate Goebel, 1421 W. Fifth Street.
W.F. Lorenz 3d, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Lorenz, 116 S. Virginia Street, is home on a 10-day leave after completition of preliminary training in the maritime service at Sheepshead Bay, N.Y. He entered the service six weeks ago.
Corporal Edward I. Heisinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Heisinger of Tripp, South Dakota, is in Sioux City on a 10-day furlough visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kuklentz, 2118 W. Sixth Street. Corporal Heisinger is stationed at Camp Butner, North Carolina.
Private Wallace Harbeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Harbeck, 2105 Dewey Avenue, has arrived in Northern Ireland with the United States ground crew of the army air force. He was inducted last October 26. A brother, Private Buford Harbeck, is stationed at Salt Lake City with the same branch of service.
James R. Sturges, seaman second class, has returned to Camp Bennion, Farragut, Idaho, after spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.N. Sturges, 3511 Parkview Street.
Sergeant Leonard Jahde has returned to the army air base at Orlando, Florida after spending a 13-day furlough with relatives and friends here.
Lawrence J. Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. EB. Coleman, 2202 S. Royce Street, has arrived in England. He is a mechanic in the army air corps.
Lieut. Julia Cameron is spending a 12-day leave with her mother, Mrs. Jenny Cameron, 1919 Riverside Boulevard. Cameron is stationed with the army nurse corps at the aviation cadet training center, San Antonio, Texas.
Private Leo Dale Bliven of the San Diego Marine Base, California, is spending a furlough with his mother, Mrs. Lyla Lorenger and brother, Ed Bliven, both of Sioux City.
Cadet George D. Addison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Addison, 1616 Douglas Street is one of five Iowa aviation cadets to complete basic flying at Pecos army air field, Texas, who are being sent to advance flying schools before winning their commissions and assignments to active duty.
Oscar Peters Nelson, seaman second class is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Nelson, 1512 Goldie Avenue. He has been in the navy more than two years and has seen duty in the Pacific.
Leo J. Lavinger, son of Mrs. Helen M. Lavinger, 1715 Grandview Boulevard and Arthur L. Sailer, husband of Bernadine Sailer, 1630 Douglas Street, are on their way to becoming petty officers in the navy. They are attending a training school for radiomen at Chicago University.

Sergeant Horace B. Johns is stationed at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, where he is attached to a ship hospital unit. His twin brother, Private Robert Johns is stationed in Hawaii. Both are the sons of Mrs. H.B. Johns of Flint, Michigan and are former Sioux Cityans. They are Central High School graduates.
Corporal Jack Lowe has returned to Camp Sutton, North Carolina, after having spent a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Lowe, 2025 Howard Street.
Leo M. Martin, stationed at Camp Butner, North Carolina has been promoted from sergeant to staff sergeant. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Martin, 1216 13th street.
Private Kenneth D. Harmon, 2107 Heights Avenue, has arrived at Fort Knox, Kentucky for a three-month training course in the armored force replacement center.
Ensign Gordon Taft has left for Florida and a training course in submarine service after spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Taft, 1715 W. 16th Street. He recently was commissioned at the naval reserve midshipmen’s school at New York City.
Private Thomas Leo Ryan has returned to Camp Cook, California, after spending a furlough with his wife, the former Dorothy Grimes and sister, Mrs. Mary Gloe, 1517 Carlin Avenue.
Martin D. Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Bailey, 4212 Tyler Street, has completed an aviation mechanic’s course at the Amarillo, Texas army air field.
Milton R. Booker, whose wife lives at 1309 24th Street, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the army, on graduation from the transportation corps officer’s candidate school at Mississippi State College. He has been ordered to active duty.
Private John Sponder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sponder, 2500 Shields Avenue, is home on furlough from Camp Barkeley, Texas. Sergeant Steve Sponder, a brother is home on furlough from Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. There are two older brothers in the armed forces, Private Charles Sponder at Camp Barkeley, Texas and Private Leo Sponder in Africa.
Corporal Dorance W. Parson, a cook in a field artillery unit at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is spending a furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Parson, 1527 Waugh Street.

Storm Lake, Iowa – Lieut. Clifford Christensen, former Buena Vista College athletic star, had been selected as a commanding officer of a marine detachment which has been assigned to Denison University, Granville, Ohio.

Carroll, Iowa – Aviation Cadet Carroll N Baker, son of Noah Baker, is one of 13 Iowans under-going intensive training in basic flying at Goodfellow field, Texas. He was graduated from Carroll High School in 1940 and later attended Creighton University.

Granville, Iowa-Magnus Schwiebach is a paratrooper with the army, stationed at Fort Ethan Allan, Vermont. He enlisted October 1, 1941. Clarence J. Schwiebach is stationed with the infantry in North Africa. He entered the service December 18, 1942.
Storm Lake, Iowa-- Second Lieut. Michael G. Kennedy has written his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.P. Kennedy, that he is in England.
Storm Lake, Iowa-- Lieut. Roger Matzdorff of the army air force is stationed in north Africa, his parents have been informed.

Sheldon, Iowa --- Donald DeWaay of Sheldon, formerly Lyon County attorney at Rock Rapids and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jason DeWaay of this city, has left for overseas duty with the army signal corps.
Battle Creek, Iowa-- Capt. Daniel Beehn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Behn of Battle Creek, wrote his parents recently that he had been in the battle of Attu, and was safe and well. His wife and child visited here recently, having been with him in California before he was sent out of the country. She has gone to Peoria, Illinois to stay with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Burke Jacobs.

19 to Begin Training at Iowa State July 1
Ames, Iowa—Special: The navy’s V-12 program, designed to train officers for the nation’s fleet, will begin at Iowa State College July 1. More than 800 men will be assigned to the local school.
Men from Sioux City include; Kenneth LeRoy Bolton, William D. Bottolson, George Warren Hill, Gilbert Ronald Haskins, Kenneth Harold Holmes, Judson Bevin Jenkins, Robert Charles Johnson, Vernon John Kasper, Warren Clare Kingsbury, James Allen McCall, Robert A. McKercher, James Lewis Myers, Paul Weber Peterson, Floyd M. Reister, Robert Paul Schenk, Raymond M. Smith, Hubert Ossian Sharp, Wayne Marvin Thompson and James H. Waxweiler.
The navy will hold the men here for instruction in 16-weeks terms with the number of terms varying according to the training requirements. Aviation cadets will receive two terms of training. Engineers for general duty will receive six terms and engineer specialists eight terms of training. The students will be in class from 52 to 58 hours per week.

Onawa, Iowa-- Paul E. Drager of Onawa has been promoted to a shipfitter third class. Mr. Drager enlisted in the navy August 17, 1942 and received his boot training at San Diego, California.
Magnolia, Iowa-- Milton H. Brooks, grandson of Mrs. Addie Donnelson of Magnolia, has been promoted to corporal. He is a graduate of the Magnolia High School and Knapp business college. Tacoma, where he was sent by the army for special training. He is now stationed at Gila Bend gunnery range where he is a dispatcher in the motor pool. He was married June 8, at Tacoma, while on furlough.
LeMars , Iowa--- Rollo L. Buddle, of LeMars, has been graduated as a bombardier in the West Texas bombardier quadrangle, San Angelo, Texas.
Moville, Iowa—Herman W. Keuck, son of B.W. Keuck, has been promoted to the rank of corporal. He is assigned to the Fifth academic squadron, Sheppard field, Texas.
Hospers, Iowa-- Private First Class Clifford R. Monson is a mechanic with the army air force and id stationed at Tinker field, Oklahoma City. His wife just returned home from a visit with him.
Hospers, Iowa-- Eugene Klein of Hospers is with the medical corps at Sheppard field, Texas. Sergeant William Uttenbogaard of Hospers is in the Hawaiian Islands with the army, having been stationed there more than a year.
Hospers, Iowa-- Lieut. Jeannette Smit is in north Africa with the army nurses corps, having arrived there on Easter Sunday this year.

Private Nelson Bynes has returned from North Africa and is now in the Woodrow Wilson General Hospital at Staunton, Virginia suffering from nervous trouble. Sergeant Louis W. Bynes of Hospers is stationed at the base gunnery school at Davis Monthan field, Tucson, Ariz.

Alta, Iowa-- Sergeant Craig F. Minard, son od Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Minard of Alta has been selected for aviation cadet training. A graduate of the Alta consolidated school. Sergeant Minard will leave soon for his station at Luke field, Arizona, to enter a preflight school.
Moville, Iowa-- Private First Class and Mrs. LeRoy Nicklas of San Luis Obispo, California arrived to spend a furlough in the home of Mrs. Nicklas’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Rawson.
Cushing, Iowa—Ensign John R. Kircheis, who has completed an indoctrination course at Chapel Hill, N.C. is spending a leave here with his wife and other relatives. Ensign Kircheis will report at the navy preflight school in Iowa City, July 8 to begin his duties as an instructor. Mrs. Kircheis will accompany him to Iowa City.
Cushing, Iowa—Ferd T. Volkert, aviation machinist’s mate, second class, has gone to Seattle after spending a leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Volkert. He recently returned from overseas duty.
