Loretta and Marcella inherited a farm hear Monticello, Iowa. This
land was an origional land grant to Edward (Edmund) Quirk from
President Polk in 1848. The land was later sold to Eric Wahl.

E. Quirk, Sr. inherited the land in Colony, Kansas. It was
originally 40 acres purchased as an investment because it was
suspected that oil could be found. When Bob [son, Robert J.] and
Fron came to KC someone contacted William E. Senior about drilling
there, and he referred them to Bob. No oil but Bob and his dad
decided to start raising cattle. After William's death in 1955, Bob
added more land until there was approximately 2000 acres fenced with
cattle. After Bob's death W.E. (Bill) [grandson of Wm. E. and son
of Robert J.] managed it until it was sold in 1998.'

'Casey [Fronalee
Eaker Quirk] was telling a story the other night about William E.
Senior - he was here visiting, went out for a drive, he was using a
small road to cross over Brush Creek, and he got his car stuck in
some high water, and police and fireman had to rescue him. There
was a sign where he crossed that said 'Don't cross if the water is
above the white line', and when they asked him why he went ahead and
crossed, he said 'I didn't see any white line', which of course was
actually buried under the water. The picture was on the front page
of the paper!

and was a member of the Nativity Rosary Society.
Surviving
are a son, Robert J. of Shawnee Mission, and three grandchildren.

MARY
C. CASEY
MASON CITY — Mary C. Casey, 83, of 302 Second St. N.E., died early
Thursday morning (Aug. 14, 2003) at the Good Shepherd Health Center
in Mason City.
Her
funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph
Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev.
Harry Koelker officiating. Cremation will follow the service with
inurnment at a later date in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in
Mason City.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home,
123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with a parish scripture service
at 6 p.m. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to
service Saturday at the church.
Those wishing to extend memorials may direct them to St. Joseph
Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Health Center or the Newman Catholic
School.
Mary
Catherine Casey was delivered into the world on Dec. 28, 1919, in
Mason City. She was one of five children born to Frances (Hurley)
and Frank E. Casey.
Mary
was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1937 and had
lived most of her life in Mason City.
She
was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Ann
Church Circle.
Mary
has been a resident of the Good Shepherd Health Center since 1953
where she was well known by all the staff and residents.
She
was dedicated to assisting the residents in any way she could and
enjoyed delivering the daily mail throughout the center and
coordinating bingo.
Her
devotion to her Catholic faith and her Irish heritage was very
important to Mary.
Mary’s family is very grateful for the loving care she received over
the past 50 years at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.
Mary
will be missed dearly by her family and friends who shared in her
life.
She
is survived by her sisters-in-law, Helen Jean Casey of Mason City
and Mary Lou Casey of Valparaiso, Ind.; and numerous nieces,
nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.
Mary
was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Casey; her
sisters, Marie MacPeak, and Aileen Casey; and her brothers, Robert
and John “Jack” Casey.

were quietly married Thursday morning [10 Oct 1918] at Dubuque.
Rev. Father Quirk, uncle of the bridegroom performed the ceremony at
the Dubuque cathedral, the attendants being Miss Myrtle Goodell,
sister of the bride, and August Casey, brother [father] of the
bridegroom. Both young people are well known in Mason City, the
bridegroom is employed as fireman on the Milwaukee with headquarters
here. They will be at home to their friends after November first
after a two week's wedding trip throughout the east.
