Note: Camp Oglethorpe is located in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. It opened in 1862 and closed probably about September 1864. It was located between the railroad tracks and the Ocmulgee River but today is not clearly identified. Located originally on 15-20 acres it is not to be confused with Fort Oglethorpe which was a prisoner of war camp during World War I.
Camp Andersonville, also known as Andersonville Prison, also known as Camp Sumter opened in 1864 until about May 1865. The city of Andersonville, about 10 miles north of Americus, Georgia, is in Sumter County, Georgia and the Andersonville National Historic Site (outside of the city) is actually mostly in Macon County.
