Clayton County's Army
Dead of World War II
First Consolidated List by U.S. Army
source: Clayton County Register,
Thursday, June 27, 1946; page 1 transcribed by S. Ferrall for Clayton co. IAGenWeb, June 2024 The first consolidated listing of Army dead and missing in World War II shows that 36 county men lost their lives in that branch of the service. The list which was made public for the first time this week included the following men from this county. EDITOR'S NOTE: Because of the army's listing methods, a number of the dead and missing usually considered as county men have been omitted from the Clayton county list and included on some other list. Two of these men were Sgt. N.J. Bailey and Tech. Sgt. Robert Dittmer. The Register staff realizes that there must be a number of other similar cases throughout the county and would be grateful to receive the enames of such men. (Transcriber's note: I've added the two men named above to the list of names below)
