Boardman Township
WWI Honor Roll & Service Flag

Important note: It is unknown by the transcriber if the names on the list below are the same as the record that was hung in the courthouse. Also unknown is if the Honor Roll is still hanging in the courthouse. Anyone who can confirm, please email the coordinator, so it can be noted here. A photo would also be appreciated.

Revised List For Honor Roll
Permanent Record Desired to Be Hung in Cour Room

We are this week submitting a revised list of the men who served during the war. There seems to be no local record of the men who enlisted, therefore we cannot vouch for the correctness nor the completeness of this list. We shall appreciae the co-operation of all interested parties in making this correct and complete. Please notify us at once of any corrections or ommissions, as this work is about to be completed and hung upon the wall of our Court Room as a permanen record.

DEDICATION BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP HONOR ROLL
Rally Will be Held in Opera House Monday, April 21

You are most cordially invited, by the Committee, to attend the dedication of the Boardman Township Honor Roll and Service Flad and the launching of the Victory Loan Campaign. This joint Rally is to be held in the Elkader Opera House on Monday, April 21, at 8 o'clock.

The loyal and ever-ready Elkader Band will play a number of selections down town after which they will go to the opera house. There will be vocal selections by some of Elkader's best talent. The public will enjoy the Special Illustrated Songs and the two reels of Motion Pictures of Uncle Sam's Army and Navy.

The beautiful large service flag with a star representing every man who went from Boardman township into the service will be dedicated. The flag contains 126 stars; 4 gold, 11 silver, 32 red and 79 blue*.

The people of Boardman township are indebted to the ingenuity and patient toil of Mrs. C.C. Oehring, Mrs. J.F. Becker, Mrs. J.P. Hyde* and Mrs. Wm. O'Brien for this flag as it shall be presented. The honor roll is also a thing of beauty and will be appreciated more and more with the passing of the years. Mrs. Webb rendered no small service in the excellent work done upon this roll.

*Transcription Notes:
-The May 1st Elkader Register published a correction, stating Mrs. J.P. Hyde should have been Mrs. Jim Hyde.
-The colors of the stars on the Service Flag for WWI represent the following:
Gold star = Killed in action
Silver star = Wounded in action
Red star = Servicemen captured or missing
Blue star = Active duty / living servicemen
