The first known cemetery in Atlantic was located on the east side of South Chestnut Street in the area of the Chestnut Hills Condominium, but was only used for a short time. No burial records can be found, and stones have disappeared or were moved to the present Atlantic Cemetery located . The Atlantic Cemetery Association was organized August 6, 1874. The first burial is believed to be Ida Conrad, buried April 4, 1863. The cemetery includes a military burial plot known as the Field of Glory, and there is also a section known as Babyland. Immediately adjacent to the east and north is the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery. A map of the cemetery is found below.
This is a very large cemetery and currently the records on the Iowagravestones Photo Project (GPP) are incomplete, but continue to grow.
