Hickory Grove Cemetery Burials
Yell Township
This cemetery was restored, walked and
transcribed through death records in 2006 by Tina Keister.
This cemetery was once adjacent to the
Hickory Grove School, which is no longer
there.
Long-time Boone County residents in
the area who lived near and
went to the school gave the following description of the cemetery:
This cemetery at one time was a little
over one acre in size and had a
white picket fence around it.
There were many children and whole
families buried in this cemetery.
Whenever there was a funeral it was
usually held in the school and the
school bell would ring as the
procession of people carried the departed to the cemetery across
the road.
There is reported to be between 40 to
50 burials in this
cemetery but only one stone survives, Archibald Gilliland.
