In Response To: Wheaton - Countryman marriage (Karen DeVore)

Ethelyn Maude Countryman was born 15 January 1881 in Wright County, Iowa. Her parents were John Henry Countryman. He was born 29 April 1831 and died 29 March 1892. He is buried in Buffalo Cemetery in Kossuth County, IA. Her mother is Mary Lucretia Williams born April 1843 or 1853 in Illinois. Mary (Williams) Countryman was living in Dallas County, IA in 1900. John Henry Countryman was in the Civil War, lst Regt., Michigan Sharp Shooters. Ethelyn had 5 brothers:
Edward Sears (27 July 1869); David Alfred (& April 1874); Wilfred Arthur (13 Nov 1876); Delbert Eugene (10 Sept 1878) and Isaac Claude (9 Nov 1883). Edward was born in Winneshiek County, IA; Isaac in Webster County, IA and the others in Wright County, IA.

It looks like Ethelyn and Mr. Wheaton were divorced. She remarried on 25 October 1905 in Adel, Dallas, Iowa to Walter Roy Keesey. Ethelyn died 2 July 1958 and is buried in Section 10, L-60, grave 4 in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, Dallas County, Iowa.

It looks like John Wheaton may not be the actual name of her first husband. In the 1900 census in Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa: Judson R. Wheaton, born November 1876, Illinois, his wife, Maud Wheaton, born May 1881, Iowa and Grace Wheaton, born August 1898, Iowa are living in the Silas Wheaton household. Grace Wheaton is enumerated in 1910 in Colfax Twp., Dallas County, Iowa living with Walter R. Kersey (29), Ethel M. Kersey (29), Robert W. Kersey, 11 months
and Grace M. Wheaton, age 11 born Iowa.

Grace Wheaton apparently married William Fulton.
