Abstract of obituary:
Lena Norton, 96, died September 11, 1963 in Galt, Iowa at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph LaBarr. Funeral at Clarion Methodist Church; Burial Evergreen Cemetery; [incorrect-probably in Galt]; Eyler Funeral Home;
Lena Wurdig was born one of a set of twins in Hamburg Germany on 24 March 1866. She came to the United States with her parents and an older brother and sister to Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after, her parents died of smallpox and they were orphaned. The twins were adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Judd of Malcolm, Iowa. Lena was married to Gilbert Norton at the Judd’s home in Malcolm on 1 March 1892. Their first son died in Malcolm in infancy. Two daughters, Verna and Cecil were born there. The family then moved to Alden, Iowa where Irene was born, They then moved to Lincoln Township in Wright County where Lester, Lucille and Julia were born. Gilbert Norton died in 1936. In 1944, Mrs. Norton and Lester moved to Clarion. She was survived by 5 daughters and 1 son:
Verna (Mrs. Reuben Lovejoy) of Bloomfield, Nebraska; Cecil (Mrs. Ralph LaBarr) of Galt, Iowa; Irene (Mrs. Albert Schau) of Bonaparte, Iowa; Lucille (Mrs. Carol Schwager) of Galt, Iowa; Julia (Mrs. Gayl Pepper) of Pomona, California; Lester Norton, Clarion.; 13 grandchildren; 22 gg, 1 ggg and 1 gggg grandchildren.Blaine Twp.
