Homer Lawrence Wicks
January 20, 1908 ---- August 23, 1997Homer L. Wicks was born January 29, 1908, to Thomas and Julia Asbe Wicks at Wright County, Iowa. He attended country school in Wright County and Eagle Grove High School before attending Shaddock Military School in Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Gladys C. Trooien in 1926 at Webster City. In 1953, he was united in marriage to Irene Babcock at Elk Point, S. D. She died January 31, 1997. He lived in the Wright County area before moving to Fort Dodge, Cedar Rapids, and Eagle Grove, where he was living before he died. He was a farmer and mechanic for John Deere in Belmond before working in the ship yards at Glen Burnie, Maryland. He then worked at the Hemp Plant in Eagle Grove and then for Horn Manufacturing in Fort Dodge before working at Cohen and Sons in Cedar Rapids where he retired in 1971.
Homer L. Wicks died Saturday, August 23, 1997, at his home in Eagle Grove at the age of 89. Survivors include six daughters, Lila Johnson and husband, Joe, of North Branch, Minn., Betty Lou Jones of Manson, Camilla Kosar and husband, Aldoph of Marshalltown, Sharon Flaws and Dean of Webster City, Sheila Young of Eagle Grove Sue McKinnis and Nick of Canehill, Ark.; 2 sons, Robert Wicks and Kathy of Warrenton, Va., and Larry Wicks of Cedar Rapids; one daughter-in-law, Arlene Wicks of Eagle Grove; 4 stepchildren, Delores Ditzenberger of Bloomington, Ind., Richard Rice and Grace of Chicago, Ill., Charles Babcock and Mona of Cedar Rapids, and Patricia Hood and James of Blue Earth, Minn.; one step-daughter-in-law, Jossie Manson and Feron of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Herbert Wicks and Vivian of Kanawha; and many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Paul Wicks; stepson, Daryl Babcock; grandsons, Donald Boone, Bill Johnson, and David Hanus; great grandsons, Brent Wright and Curtis Rink; great-granddaughter, Meagan Schultz; and step-granddaughter, Patricia Ditzenberger.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 26, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. at the Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial was held in the Norway Township Cemetery northeast of Clarion. Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
