I have been hunting for YEARS for my great Grandpa's next older brother and have had no luck at all, that is, until yesterday.
With the help of a Genealogist in the Netherlands, I have been pointed in the direction of Sioux Center, Iowa. This researcher found a newspaper article, in a Dutch Newspaper in the Netherlands announcing the property sale of the estate of Albert Berends of Sioux Center, Iowa on 22 September 1906, by one Anthony Te Paske.
I have been doing some digging online and find Albert & Jantje Bos Berends living in Sioux Center, Iowa in the 1895 Iowa census. Everything matches my Albert, country of origin and age. I believe he died circa 1905 in Sioux Cener.
Everything in the Netherlands says he emigrated to either the Orange City or Pella, Iowa area.Subject of this hunt:
Albert Berends
Born - 18 February 1841 De Loo 265, Coevorden, Drenthe, Netherlands.Question:
Where/How would I go about finding this Albert Berends' first papers & final citizenship certification from the Sioux Center/orange City area?
I need to find HOW and WHEN Albert came to America.
Does he have any descendants there in Iowa? All of his siblings settled here in West Michigan between 1870 & 1887. Finding my Albert would top off that generation in my tree. It feels so nekkid without Albert there.
