John W. Downing died between 2:00 and 3:00 am on January 18, 1929. The cause of death was Acute alcoholism (corn whiskey) plus chronic alcoholism. Contributory cause was 20 days of influenza. Signed by J. H. Robbins, MD, coroner, Sioux City, Iowa. Iowa Death Certificate 97-1229;
