Afrodity was born April 28, 1930 in Filiatra, Messenia, Greece to John and Joanna (Spinos) Dounos. Orphaned at a young age, she eventually moved from her village to work as a seamstress in Athens. There, she met a young police officer, Gust Segos, who would follow her to America. Afrodity immigrated to the United States on July 10, 1952 through Ellis Island and eventually settled in Sioux City, Iowa. On March 11, 1956 she married Gust Segos who had arrived from Greece. Afrodity worked at Johnson Biscuit for several years and then at IBP until her retirement.

She was a longtime active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Philoptochos Society, and Daughters of Penelope. Afrodity and Gust sponsored and assisted many relatives from overseas to come to the U.S.A. She took great pride in her work and cooking for church events, where she made extraordinary Greek pastries. She will be remembered for the passion she showed for her family, friends, church and work.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Patty and Richard Bean of Dubuque, Iowa; a son and his wife, Andrew and Vesna Segos of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, Bobby (Kristin) Bean and their children, Brody and Brinley; Andrew Bean and girlfriend, Emma Steil; and Sofia Segos.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gust; and brother, Gus.
