Darrell Dean Thomas

Darrell Dean Thomas, 89, peacefully passed away on May 12, 2024, in Gardendale, AL. He was born on May 30, 1934, in Greene, Iowa.

Darrell was a loving father, grandfather, and Lutheran Christian. His family was his top priority, both immediate and extended. He had a green thumb and a knack for dressing stylish. He was a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.

He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Seehusen (Allen) of Gardendale, AL, and Tammy Thomas Mahaney (Michael) of Yatesville, PA; grandchildren Ann Brown (Curt), Justin Seehusen (Courtney), Tyler Seehusen (Bethany), Mariah Pelzer (Chris), and Connor Mahaney; and great-grandchildren Will and Jack Brown, Piper, Ellie, and Lizzie Seehusen, Silas, and Zinnia Pelzer, his sisters Joyce Elliott (Ken) and Kathy TImmer (Jim-deceased), loved nephews and nieces. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife Pat, his parents Theodore and Grace Thomas, his brother Ronald Thomas, niece Regina Elliott-Wach, and nephew Todd Elliott.

He started working at 15 years old as a stock boy, and continued into management for Walker's Shoe Stores. In retirement, he worked at Karlton's Men's Clothing in Sioux City, IA.

A faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa, Darrell's graveside services will be held on July 20, 2024, at 11 am at Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene, IA.

The family wants to thank his special caregivers, Bill Fitchner, Kathy Pritchard, Doris Schultz, and Lupita Garcia; as well as his neighbors Nicole and Jerry Cruz and their sons; Covenant Woods Staff and Hope/ACG Hospice in Gardendale, AL.
