SIOUX CITY -, 90, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at a local care center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at St. Mark's Cemetery in Pender, NE. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Arlon was born July 14, 1933, in Wisner, NE, the son of Elmer W. and Dora E. (Suhr) Spangler. He attended grade schools in Thurston County and graduated from Emerson High School in 1953. Arlon married Lila Burns on October 1, 1960. Lila preceded him in death on April 25, 1995. Arlon had formerly been employed by Babers Vis-Vita Sales for 10 years, and by Hall Monument Company for 14 years, retiring in 1995 for health reasons. He later was employed doing courier delivery work, retiring in 2010. Arlon served in the United States Army for two years with over-seas service in Korea and Japan. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the American Legion Harty-McNally Post 175 in Jackson, NE, having served as Commander, and the Knights of Columbus Father Trecy Council #3844 in South Sioux City, having served as the Family Activities Director and as the Financial Secretary. He was chosen as Knight of the Year in 1991. Arlon was a resident of South Sioux City for many years and moved to Sioux City in 2004.

Survivors include his sister Janice Lamb of Wakefield, NE; stepson Richard "Dick" Burns of Springfield, IL; sister-in-law Jackie Spangler of Lincoln, NE; and special friend Linda Hall of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lila, stepdaughters: Carol Wagner and Judy Parr; three brothers: Keith, Kenneth, and David Spangler; two sisters-in-law Sylvia Spangler and Barbara Spangler; and brother-in-law Melvin Lamb.

Memorials may be directed to the Knights of Columbus Father Trecy Council #3844 for secondary education purposes.
