With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alexis Ann Franzen, age 24, formerly of Decorah, IA, who left this world on Monday, February 3, 2025.

A celebration of Alexis’ life will be held on February 17, 2025, at The Elks Club in Decorah, starting at 3 pm. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories of the life she lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made payable in Alexis' name; a charity will be determined at a later date. Memorials may be mailed to 908 Pine Ridge Ct. Decorah, IA 52101

Alexis was born on March 28, 2000, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital to Annette Franzen and Kurtis Karr. She spent her early years in Waukon, IA, before moving to Pella, IA with her family. The family later returned to Decorah, where Alexis graduated with the Decorah High School Class of 2018. She furthered her education at Winona State University before eventually making her home in Minneapolis.

From a young age, Alexis was full of curiosity and passion. She loved caring for animals on the family farm and once dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. She was the family animal whisperer; she is known for her professional hog riding. She played soccer in elementary school, participated in band and choir, and was a dedicated cheerleader in high school. Alexis had a creative spirit, enjoying art, reading, and weekend video game sessions with her father. Spyro gaming with her bonus brother was another fun event, they would restart the game so many times because they thought it didn’t have a memory card when in reality the card was there the whole time. She also shared a special bond with her Grandma Franzen, spending cherished moments baking culverts, cinnamon rolls, and her grandmother’s famous icebox cake.

Alexis is survived by her loving mother, Annette Franzen (Les Askelson); her brother, Dane; bonus brother, Sergeant Lars (Angel) Norstebon; and bonus nephew, Sawyer of North Carolina. She is also deeply missed by her grandparents, Clyde and Debra Franzen of Ossian, IA, and Dwayne and Debbie Karr of Decorah, IA; committed stepmother, Trisha Karr of Winona, MN; bonus grandparents, Warren and Janet Dunkel of Des Moines, IA; along with aunts, uncles, many cousins, a large extended family, and dear friends.

She now rests in peace, reunited with her father, Kurtis Karr, her great-grandparents, and her beloved neighbor, Evi.

Alexis’ bright spirit, kindness, and love for those around her will forever be remembered.
