Wednesday, July 11, 1984Ray Kurka, carpenter, dies
Raymond Bernard Kurka, 79, 910 S. Third St., died at 2:10 a.m. today at the Jefferson County Hospital. A retired carpenter, he built many fine homes in Fairfield.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. William Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Prayers for a Christian Wake will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home.
A lifetime resident of Jefferson County, Kurka was born March 27, 1905 at Polishville, the son of Stephen and Agnes Supalla Kurka. He was a 1924 graduate of Fairfield High School and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Kurka was married June 8, 1940 to Maxine Woolums. She preceded her husband in death March 28, 1972. Seven brothers and sisters are also deceased.
Kurka is survived by one son, Daniel Kurka, York, Pa.; one daughter, Patsy Wehr, Arlington Heights, Ill.; and six grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Victor Kurka, Fairfield, and George Kurka, Houston, Tes.; and two sisters, Mary Libe, Washington, and Ethel Waugh, Burlington.
