Warren County birth pre-1880

SHELMAN, SHELLMAN, BALL

Hi, there. My name is Melody Shellman and I'm trying to locate my Shellman/Shelman ancestors in Warren County. According to the census John W. Shelman and his wife Mary lived in Jefferson Twp, Warren County during the 1870 census. I believe that my great-grandfather, Wilbert Lee Shellman, was born in 1876, possibly in Warren County; but as that was before the local governments started keeping track of births, would there be a church in the area that was around at that time and might have archives going back that far? Thank you for your help!
