What day and year did my family member die? My mom told me that he was struck by lightning.My mom was Ollie Sellwood Lanigan who also born in Keosaqua~~Thanks~~~~~~~

Tree Kills Mt. Zion Boy

John Myers, 19, was found dead about 7 o’clock last Friday evening in the timber back if the Forbes cemetery between Keosauqua and Mt. Zion. He and Milt McCarty had sawed a tree down before dinner, and after dinner John went back alone to work it up. It appears when he cut off a limb the tree rolled over, caught him under it and crushed him to death.

He had asked his mother to have an early supper, and when he failed to return his mother and sister Kate became alarmed and got Milt McCarty to go with them to the place where they cut the tree down before noon. There they found the body, dead, pinned under the tree. They had to leave the corpse and go back to Mt. Zion for help. The body was brought to the home in Mt. Zion, where funeral services were held Sunday, as is shown by an obituary on this page.
