William "Bill" Porter, 70, of Fairfield Route 3 died at 8:30 a.m. June 17, 1990, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
He was born June 13, 1920, in Blanchard, N.D. to Frederick L. and Flora J. Abbott Porter. He married Marjorie Frances Harryman on January 11, 1946.
At the age of nine months, the family moved to the farm southwest of Fairfield where he lived the rest of his life. He attended rural schools and was a 1937 graduate of Libertyville High School. He was stationed in Europe in World War II, serving in the Army. He was a lifetime farmer and was active in 4-H and served on the county fair board for many years. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville and was a current long-time director and board member of Libertyville Savings Bank.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard of Fairfield; a daughter, Sandra Clough of Burnsville, Minn., and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Porter and a sister, Amey Glotfelty.
The service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 1990 at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. Harold Harryman officiating. Burial was in Fell Cemetery in Libertyville.
Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville or the Heart Association.
