Virgil Dean Cooper

Virgil Dean Cooper, 70, New London, died at his residence Tuesday, morning, Oct. 10.

He was born Nov. 25, 1918 in Henry County, the son of John Francis and Hazel Short Cooper. He married Irma Linch Nov. 28, 1942 at Memphis, Mo. He worked at the Iowa ordinance Plant for 28 years, first as foreman in the automotive department and then foreman in the pipe fitters' dept. He also worked as maintenance man for the New London Community School for a number of years.

Mr. Cooper served in the U.S. Army from July 1941 until March 1945 in an anti-aircraft division. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 7641, New London.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Virgil Dean Cooper, Jr., Ogden, Utah and Gary J. Cooper, Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Mrs. Cyrus (Geneva) Greenfield, Douds and Mrs. Austin (Dorothy) Heaton, Redwood Falls, Minn.; one brother, John Francis Cooper, Richardson, Texas; 2 granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Elliott Chapel, Rev. Donald Wooge, officiating.

Private interment was in Forrest Home Cemetery, mt. Pleasant.

A memorial for the American Cancer Society has been established.
