Grace Irene McElwee
Services for Grace Irene McElwee, 82, 3031 Ave. I, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Barr Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Joseph Lloyd will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Mrs. McElwee died unexpectedly late Thursday, July 6, at her home.
She was born May 27, 1907, in Van Buren Country. She had lived in Fort Madison for more than 60 years. She retired in 1969 as a Sheaffer Pen Co. shipping department employee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Fort Madison Senior Citizens.
On Oct. 30, 1926, at Mount Pleasant, she was married to Harold Walter (Dutch) McElwee, who died June 11, 1988.
Surviving are a son, William of Waukesha, Wis.; a sister, Mrs. Orin (Cheryl) Masters, Kingsport, Tenn.; five grandchildren, 1 great-grandchildren, several, nephews and nieces.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Her parents were Noah and Gertrude M. Riley Duncan.
Friends may call anytime at the Barr Memorial Chapel where the family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
A memorial is being established. Contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
