Myrtle A. French
Myrtle A. French, 89, of Farmington, Iowa, died at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua, Iowa.
She was born Oct. 6, 1899, in the rural Clark County, Mo. community of Dumas, the daughter of Perry O. and Phylinda Underwood McPherson. She married Earnest E. French on Sept. 15, 1920, in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1985.
She was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church, Clark County Chapter DAR, Athens Ladies Aide, Farm Bureau and Extension Club. She and her husband were charter board members of the Athens Park Development, now the Battle of Athens State Park. She was a direct descendant of an early settler who came to American in the early 1600's. She and her husband were life-long farmers near Athens.
Survivors include her son Robert French, Cincinati; daughter Mrs. Mary McFarland, Kodiak, Ala.; brother Olive P. McPherson, Laverne, Minn., sister Mrs. Pancy Hinkle, Donnellson; eight grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, seven brothers, one sister, one grandson and one granddaughter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Anson Community Church will the Rev. Mike Shea officiating.
Burial will be at the Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday at Shaffer and Sons Funeral Home, Kahoka, with the family greeting friends from 7-9 Thursday evening.
Memorials may be made to the Anson Community Church or Van Buren County Memorial Hospital.
Shaffer and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
